What’s in Aloe vera?
Aloe vera leaf contains two chemically and physically distinct substances.
The green outer covering of the leaf (the rind) contains a bitter sap with irritant and laxative properties, which probably encourages animals to leave the plants alone.
In contrast, the inner leaf (or gel) has a pleasant taste. It’s the gel from the inner leaf that’s gained popularity in beverages and herbal remedies.
Extremely safe, aloe gel has been extensively tested, and has no known toxicity.
What’s in the gel?
The gel is more than 95% water, and contains over 200 different constituents.
These include mucopolysaccharides, enzymes, sterols, prostaglandins, fatty acids, amino acids, proteins, vitamins (vitamin A, vitamin C, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, and others), and minerals (calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, iron, boron, copper, zinc, manganese, chromium, and others).
Benefits of Aloe vera
Research indicates internally consumed Aloe vera may help the body in dealing with…
- Gastro-intestinal distress, including peptic ulcer, and constipation
- Wound healing
- Allergy, asthma, and inflammation
- High blood sugar, including diabetes
- Immune challenges
- Bacterial, fungal, and viral infections
- Intestinal worms
- Pain
- Detoxification
How does Aloe vera work?
Some scientists think the key may be its polysaccharides, by far the largest group of aloe constituents.
Think of polysaccharides as simple sugar units linked together like beads in a necklace.
And just as a necklace may have different colours and lengths of beads, the simple sugar units may be of different types (glucose or mannose) and the polysaccharide ‘necklaces’ may be of different lengths.
Each polysaccharide necklace may have different biochemical activities inside us…
‘necklace’ length
Small…about 70 to 650 ‘beads’
- May alleviate inflammation associated with arthritis and ulcerative colitis.
- May lower blood sugar and help fight diabetes.
Medium…about 1,500 ‘beads’
- Antioxidant activity may lessen free radical damage associated with cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
- Antioxidant activity may also protect against various environmental toxins.
Large…4,000 to 5,000 ‘beads’
- Provides anti-bacterial and healing properties.
Very large…8,000 to 9,000 ‘beads’
- Supports healthy immune responses…stimulating antibody production, increasing natural killer cells, and releasing anti-tumor substances.
What makes Vitality Aloe Vera Plus one of GNLD’s best-loved products?
Its extraordinary quality, taste, nutrition, and value set the standard for natural beverages.
GNLD Aloe Vera Plus Drink is made with 50% pure aloe vera juice, obtained from the soothing, pleasant-tasting inner gel of the aloe leaf… and none of the bitter, laxative rind.
Added to this is GNLD’s delicious Special Herbal Tea Blend, which is traditionally steeped to bring out the best qualities of energising Ginseng, relaxing Chamomile, and calming Passion Flower.
GNLD Aloe Vera Plus Drink also contains…
- vitamin C for antioxidant support of the immune system
- electrolytes for a balanced metabolism
- fructose for a delicious, natural energy boost
How’s it made?
GNLD’s starting material is the finest Aloe vera leaf… only selected 60cm-100 cm long, farm-harvested leaves of Aloe barbadensis Miller are used.
After sanitizing the exterior, the leaves are carefully filleted to obtain the pure inner gel, and leave behind the bitter rind.
Thanks to GNLD’s special process, the aloe polysaccharides stay intact… there is virtually no degradation at all.
The pure aloe juice is then mixed with GNLD’s special 3-herb Herbal Tea Blend to produce a delicious natural beverage that’s 50% aloe juice, 50% herbal tea.
A little citric acid is added to stabilise the aloe juice, and a small amount of organic, food-grade sodium benzoate (made from benzoic acid from berries) is added to increase its shelf life after opening. If no preservatives are present, the natural flavour and goodness of the drink degrades very quickly.
The ‘preservative’ is metabolised in the body in the same way as the natural food sources. Benzoic acid is naturally found in berries, put there by Mother Nature to protect them from bacteria.
A bowl of berries contains many times more benzoic acid than GNLD’s Aloe Vera Plus.
Purity
GNLD is proud of the absolute purity of their aloe gel, and guarantees what’s on the label is in the product… and guarantees nothing is in the product that’s not on the label.
This is very reassuring, as some other products investigated by the International Aloe Science Council contained no Aloe vera at all!
Rest assured, GNLD’s Aloe Vera Plus meets all the requirements for Aloe vera juice, as outlined and adopted by the International Aloe Science Council, a voluntary industry group set up to establish guidelines for the definition of Aloe vera products.
GNLD 3-herb Herbal Tea Blend
Chamomile, Ginseng, and Passion Flower make up GNLD’s special 3-herb Herbal Tea Blend.
These herbs have been used throughout the ages by herbal traditionalists for their many apparent health benefits…
- Nature’s energiser, ginseng is considered an adaptogen… a substance that protects against stress, both mental and physical
- Chamomile has been used to induce a state of pleasant relaxation
- And passion flower has long been employed as a calming herb
GNLD steeps their herbs the traditional way, to bring out the full qualities of the herbs. The tea-brewing process also kills any microbes.
To assure purity, GNLD carefully tests all their raw materials, and their finished products, for microbial contamination…with zero tolerance.
Electrolytes
Electolytes can become depleted during periods of physical or mental stress.
GNLD’s Aloe Vera Plus Drink contains magnesium, potassium, and other electrolytes for balanced metabolic support of several body tissues and organs, especially heart, muscles, nerves, and brain.
Vitamin C
A small wine-glass serving of Vitality Aloe Vera Plus provides more than 100% of the Daily Value of vitamin C, an antioxidant nutrient essential to maintaining collagen, a protein that supports the structure of skin and body organs.
Vitamin C also supports the integrity of capillaries…our smallest blood vessels…and boosts immune function.
A delicious glycaemic edge drink
GNLD’s Vitality Aloe Vera Plus Drink is sweetened with the fruit sugar fructose, which provides a glycemic edge for both quick and sustained energy.
The sugar component is very small, and is not enough to stimulate insulin release, or cause a sugar spike. The drink contains only fructose and trace amounts of simple sugars normally present in the aloe plant. Aloe contains more mannose than glucose, which may help lower blood glucose levels.
Natural lemon flavour, the pleasant taste of aloe juice, and the refreshing blend of herbal teas add up to a great-tasting drink.
Ginseng/Eleuthero (Eleutherococcus senticosus)
Ginseng/Eleuthero (also know as ciwujia) has been used for over 2,000 years in China as a general preventative medicine and tonic.
This century, it has been studied extensively by Russian scientists, with numerous clinical trials establishing it as an adaptogen… a substance that protects against stress, both physical and mental.
Nearly a thousand studies show Siberian Ginseng may increase energy and stamina, and help the body resist infection and toxic assaults.
In Chinese medicine it has been used to prevent respiratory infections, viral infections, provide energy and vitality, improve immunity, support the health of the blood vessels and brain, and aid memory, concentration, and other cognitive abilities, which may be impaired by poor blood supply to the brain.
Historically it has been a popular herbal remedy for weakness, depression, fatigue, nervous breakdown, and allergies.
And it may play a role in normalizing blood sugar levels.
Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla)
Traditionally, Chamomile flowers have been brewed to produce a soothing tea that induces a state of pleasant relaxation, without disrupting normal mental function or motor coordination.
It has also been used to calm upset stomachs and ease digestion. Its effectiveness in this respect is due, at least in part, to its ability to reduce inflammation.
Other historical uses include alleviating pain, reducing muscle spasms, calming the nerves, and detoxifying the body.
And it has antibacterial and antifungal activity as well.
Passion Flower (Passiflora incarnata)
Passion Flower has been used for more than 200 years to calm nerves and induce relaxation during periods of stress and hormonal adjustment, such as during menstruation, after giving birth, and during menopause.
People have also used it to aid concentration, and to soothe pain and inflammation, too.

Kindly recommend drugs for the following ailments 1. Diabetes and 2. Ulcer. Thanks.
Hello Eileen.
GNLD does not supply drugs, so I can’t help you with recommendations for those.
As far as nutritional supplements are concerned, make sure the person has the nutrients he/she needs for healing skin ulcers. These include vitamins and minerals (Formula IV, Formula IV Plus), vitamin C (Vitamin C Sustained Release), the protein building-blocks (amino acids) found in one of the protein shakes (Nutrishake, NeoLifeShake, GR2 Meal Replacement Shake), and something to keep the immune system strong (Carotenoid Complex and Flavonoid Complex).
Diabetes, if it is type 2 diabetes, will respond well to keeping a tight rein on the amount of sugar, processed foods, and starchy foods being swallowed.
Severely limiting things like soft drinks, fruit juices, milk shakes, ice cream, pizzas, pies, cakes, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes will go a long way to re-gaining control of blood sugar (and therefore insulin).
Replace the drinks with water and unsweetened teas, and the starches with leafy vegetables sprinkled with a little virgin olive oil. Delicious!
Love your site. Your table of contents is great. I hope you don’t mind if I copy to a word doc and send info to customers. Everything that customers and distributors need is on this website.
One health care product I could not find on the table on contents is Aloe Vera Plus.
Thanks again. Anne
Hello Anne.
Months ago you visited our blog and wrote a nice comment. I’m really embarassed to be replying so very late, and hope you accept my red-faced apology.
Thanks for asking…you’re welcome to use the info on the site, though please remember I’m an independent distributor and nothing I’ve written has been seen or approved by GNLD.
The products I’ve written about are the ones Heide and I have used and enjoyed, so the info you see is a collage of GNLD’s published info and our own personal experiences with the products.
By the way, the info about GNLD’s Aloe Vera Plus is in the ‘GNLD herbal alternatives’ section.
Wishing you every success in your business,
David & Heide.
i ve been nursing ulcer for abt 3 yrs now.it’s nw sever to the extent that i nw ve mouth odour and most time i ve dificulty in goin to toilet, constant abdominal pains but tank God i cam acros ur product aloe vera plus jst hop there wil be an improvemnt
I am really in need of ulcer curing medicine which I have been nursing for 2-3 years. Any available medicine and where precisely can I get it. I reside in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria
Hi Anthony.
Sorry to hear about your ulcers. You didn’t mention where they are, but I’m assuming they’re stomach ulcers because your comment is on the Aloe Vera Plus Drink page. GNLD’s Drink will certainly help you.
However, it’s not a medicine, and it’s not treatment…only licensed medical practitioners are allowed to treat conditions. And that’s my first recommendation…go and see your doctor.
Rather than masking the symptoms with home remedies, I always think it best to find the causes and deal with them. For example, smoking tobacco, drinks containing alcohol, caffeine, sugar, flavourants, colourants, or preservatives are all known to affect the protective stomach lining. So do some medicines, and painkillers like aspirin.
Get into the habit of reading ingredient labels, and if it looks like it’s come from a chemistry laboratory, put the “food” back on the shelf.
If you get pain after a certain meal or drink, make a note of what you’ve just swallowed. Over a period of time you’ll get a good idea of the foods and drinks that make your suffering worse and then you can “treat” the cause by avoiding them.
If you’d like to combine the food detective work with some Aloe Vera Plus Drink, give one of the four GNLD Centres in Nigeria a call and ask if there’s a distributor in your area who can help you get it. You’ll find the contact details of the Nigerian Centres on this page… http://www.gnld.co.za/wwl.aspx?NAV_CATEGORY_ID=1193&CATEGORY_ID=1290
Wishing you well soon,
David.
